Racing doesn't happen unless we have volunteers and the Mount Spokane Hill Climb and MS Fundraiser is no exception.  And remember: if you provide two volunteers we will waive your entrance fee while active racers who volunteer receive two points towards the series! What's in it for you:

• Any racer who volunteers receives two points towards the series
• Any racer who volunteers twice or provides two volunteers throughout the series receives one race entry fee waived
• All volunteers receive an Inland Road Race Series volunteer t-shirt
• All volunteers receive free hot coffee compliments of Roast House, a local Spokane roaster sponsoring the series
• All volunteers receive a bag of freshly roasted Inland Road Race Series coffee from Roast House

• Below are the intersections to which volunteers will be assigned.
• The arrow/line is the direction the racers will be traveling.
• The stop sign represents a flagger, i.e. the volunteer who stops motorized vehicle traffic so racers can pass safely.
• The pointing finger respresents the marshal, i.e. the volunteer who directs the racers around the course.
• The dotted lines from both the stop signs and the pointing finger represent the actual location the volunteer is to stand for their assignment. It is important to understand this and to be in this location for your assignment.

Assignment 1 requires a flagger to stop uphill traffic while we stage the racers on the road just outside of Mitcham's Barn. While we're hoping to delay traffic as little as possible, it is imperative that cars do not pass the pack while they're staging. As soon as a pack rolls out, the flagger will release the vehicles, instructing them to proceed EXTERMELY cautiously up the mountain.

We also need 1 lead vehicle, 3 support vehicles, and 1 follow vehicle:

• Drivers need to report to Mitcham's Barn no later than 8:15 a.m.
• Drivers must have their vehicles lined up in start order by 8:20 a.m.
• Drivers must be seated in their vehicles by 8:45 a.m.
• As a driver of a support vehicle, be prepared to have racers' wheelsets put in your car, front seat, back seat, trunk, anywhere they can find room. Wheels are not always the cleanest item thrown in a follow car; an old sheet thrown over your seats can save you some post-race vacuuming.
• As a driver of a follow vehicle, be prepared to pick up any cyclists who's decided to not finish the race.  This means that you will need to make room in your vehicle for a rider and his/her bike.  Most cars will accomodate a bike, especially if the rider removes his wheels from his frame.  However, most riders who choose to not finish the race will instead opt to just ride down the hill and not in your vehicle.
